Unilever being Sued for their Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit Product

It seems Unilever is now face to face with a class action suit for falsely advertising their Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit product under the Suave brand. Suave’s “at home alternative” kit advertises that it will act as a smoothing keratin treatment when in fact it has done more damage to consumers than any good to their strands. Law firm, Wasserman, Comden, Casselman & Esensten, LLP, in Los Angeles has taken the case and found that this product also contains Tetrasodium EDTA and DMDM Hydantoin, which is a form of Formaldehyde, a human carcinogen known for causing Cancer. We will keep you updated on this action lawsuit and hope that Unilever will recompense these women as they rightfully deserve for being mislead into thinking they would get beautiful hair in 30 days, but instead they lost most of their hair in less than 30 minutes.

Thanks to our reader Ann S. for the update. Please note that FashAddiX.com remains loyal to our readers and that we will turn down thousands of dollars for an Ad before falsely advertising any product on our site and misleading our viewers.

UPDATE: Unilever/Suave has DISCONTINUED the selling of this product, it has been recalled.

Geraldo Rivera feels Trayvon Martin’s Hoodie may have been the cause of Death

Geraldo Rivera is an attorney and journalist known for his controversial and outspoken style. Rivera is now under fire for saying that the young Florida teen, Trayvon Martin, who was murdered by George Zimmerman, may have been killed due to his attire, “Every time you see someone stick up a 7-Eleven, the kid is wearing a hoodie,” Rivera said on Fox & Friends. This caused a backlash where Rivera finds himself apologizing for his “politically incorrect” comment. Perhaps he did not mean any harm by it, but it was an insensitive comment in addition to one that did not make any sense. If women wear tight clothes does that mean they should get sexually abused? Are they asking for it? When babies get raped is it because their diapers are too high or too low enticing the predator? No. No. And NO. When a criminal commits a crime is because they intended to do so. Manslaughter, rape, or any criminal act should not be excused due to the victim’s fashion choices. There’s no excuse for such actions.

Calvin Klein gives $2 Million to FIT

Calvin Klein is an FIT alumnus (class of 1963), but the talented and successful Mr. Klein did not forget his roots. Klein recently made a donation of $1 million to the Fashion Institute of Technology, through the Calvin Klein Family Foundation, which was later matched with another $1 million by Calvin Klein, Inc., of PVH Corp. The funds will go to FIT’s Fashion Design Department (established in 1944) for their annual spring shows. Klein stated, “The annual FIT fashion show is the culmination of the very best of the fashion design students’ accomplishments during their studies at FIT. This fund is dedicated to ensure that the FIT fashion show will continue to be the students’ showcase to our industry without compromise. I am very proud that Calvin Klein, Inc. has joined my family foundation in this effort.” Cheri Fein, executive director of FIT’s Public and Media Relations writes that FIT’s President, Dr. Joyce F. Brown “is extremely proud to call Calvin Klein one of our [their] own.”  We concur.

This indeed is very kind of him. It is very few people who nurture new designers, and we are more than certain that young talent appreciates Klein’s support!

PRADA Denies Disliking The PRUGLY

Rina Bovrisse, an ex- senior retail manager of PRADA’s Japanese division claims she was fired from the company for being unappealing and disobeying orders (she alleges she was asked to terminate unattractive people, lose weight and change her hairstyle).  She said Japan’s Chief Executive Officer, Davide Sesia, ordered her to fire 15 managers and retail staffers on the basis that they were old, ugly, disgusting or not having the Prada look,” the Japan Times reported.   Bovrisse is suing and seeking compensation for harassment, discrimination and emotional distress.  PRADA calls these allegations “false” stating that the termination of her employment was legitimate.  Prada’s spokeswoman told WWD, “You can’t stop people suing you…we are very serene and we’ll fight back in the appropriate way.”  This doesn’t scare or stops Bovrisse on speaking her mind and standing for what she feels is right.  A Facebook Fan Page was created by one her supporters and it is currently over 250 fans strong.

Terry Richardson Being Called a Predator

Sex, drugs and—FASHION?  Fashion photographer, Terry Richardson, is being accused of being a sexual predator and now, it seems, everyone’s behind the lens taking a shot at him.  Sex scandals in any industry does not serve as a surprise when those in high positions abuse their power to the fullest extent.  Richardson is in the spotlight and being flashed at right back.  Two models by the name of Rie Rasmussen and Jamie Peck have come forth complaining about Richardson being unable to keep his pecker in his pants during shoots.  Rasmussen tells the NY Post, “He takes girls who are young, manipulates them to take their clothes off and takes pictures of them they will be ashamed of.  They are too afraid to say no because their agency booked them on the job and are too young to stand up for themselves….His ‘look’ is girls who appear underage, abused, look like heroin addicts . . . I don’t understand how anyone works with him….I told him, “what you do is completely degrading to women.”

Peck who has also worked with the fame photog added fuel to the fire.  She  writes, “I modeled for Terry Richardson when I was 19. And guess what? I felt bad about it. Of all the fine folks I’ve frolicked au naturel for, he’s the only one who’s left me feeling like I needed to take two showers.”  She continues, “He spoke in the effeminate tones of someone trying very hard not to come off as sexually threatening despite the fact that he was basically walking around in a hipster pedophile costume. I got naked, danced around a bit, smiled, squeezed my tits together, yada yada. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ first album was playing on repeat.  He asked me to call him Uncle Terry and I obliged, because why not?”

Richardson who is known for his highly sexually provocative style has worked for only the most prominent names in the industry.  Shockingly enough, one fashion insider who requested to remain anonymous told Jezebel,  that companies who brand him “know full well Richardson’s predatory behavior,” but that he “is tolerated because the industry folk are just sheep. There are only a handful of photographers who have the power, a handful of editors who have the power, and a handful of clients who have the power. Everyone else just follows this small group of people.”

We have to ask, what is this…High School all over again? Follow the leader?

Many people are shouting out from every angle against the alleged predator, but Fashionista.com doesn’t think this will taint Richardson’s image,  they said, “As more models come forward, we’ve started to wonder if this will actually affect his career. The man shoots for everyone, and we do mean everyone — from American Vogue to Purple, from H&M to Tom Ford, even Lacoste — and our instincts say no, he’ll continue to be one of the most in demand fashion photographers.”

We BEG to differ and we urge companies and agencies to be very selective in who they employ.  If an employee is behaving inappropriately, no matter how talented they are, they deserve the pink slip.  Not doing so exemplifies that you stand behind and condone such behavior.  Models need to take a stand and women need to learn when to say NO and walkout.  People do anything for fame, but even if earning you millions nothing is worth your dignity and integrity.  If you are in any position that makes you feel awkward, get up and go.  If you feel you were born to be a star, don’t be anyone’s Bozo the clown.  Sexual exploitation is not a taboo, regardless of the field you are in, but the easy way is the hard way and you will realize that in the end.  And to Fashion Industry professionals, shame on you! This industry may be dominated by men, but it is meant to cater predominantly to WOMEN.

It is a very, very sad day today in the fashion industry.  It has come to our attention that the extremely talented designer, Alexander McQueen has passed away.  He was only 40 years old.  McQueen was found dead in his London home on Thursday.   The cause of death it is said to be suicide, there is some speculation of depression since he  was mourning the loss of his mother who also died this month on February 2nd.

McQueen made a name for himself in London then Paris, Milan and New York with his innovative style and unique designs.  He became a fashion star to the stars.  His S/S 2010 collection received rave reviews and we absolutely loved it.  We just lost one of our most talented artists in the industry.  From YSL, and Versace to our very own true fashion queen:  Mr. Alexander McQueen.  May God rest his soul and  may he color heaven even more beautiful.

H&M & WAL-MART HATE POOR PEOPLE

walmart

The New York Times reported that two very successful retail chains, H&M and Wal-Mart have been throwing out brand-new, unsold clothes in large trash bags. In order to avoid reselling of the items, they slashed up the clothes and discarded them making them unprofitable and unusable when they could have gave it to charity instead. Graduate student, Cynthia Magnus made this discovery when she strolled by the back entrance of the H&M store on 35th street in New York City stumbling upon hundreds of Wal-Mart tagged items with holes made in them. Wal-Mart was caught doing the same. Wal-Mart’s spokeswoman claimed that they “typically” donate all unworn merchandise to charities while H&M promised that they will desist on destroying the clothes at their Manhattan location. Only at their Manhattan location? How about in all of their stores? We’re hoping other companies can learn from these two company’s mistake. Shame on you Wal-Mart and H&M!
